A Twitter user, James Dellogado, exposes his Spanish professor’s Facebook status urging the Department of Education to ban gay teachers in elementary. He further explains that this is due to gays having their “own peculiar way of speaking” that may affect their male students. First, it will allow the teachers to understand their students.  She can recognize and diagnose their work and predict why different classroom scenario happen that way. For instance, if the students failed to submit paper works, the teacher know exactly why that is so. It will be easy for the teacher to notice difficulties the students encounter.  Secondly, the teacher can assess whether her teaching works is acceptable or need improvement.   Do they need to undergo more trainings or perhaps help others to improve theirs?  Doing so can increase school collaboration and feedback between teachers.  Third is to make their craft tailor fit to the needs of their students.  Why a method that works for one school didn’t so well to another school?  The answer is that different classroom needs different teac

Briones clarifies: I’m not against teachers’ salary increase

Briones clarifies: I’m not against teachers’ salary increase Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones on Friday clarified she is not against the salary increase of public school teachers. Briones said her previous remark on the issue was “misunderstood” or “misrepresented to be a position against a salary increase.” “It is not true that I am against the salary increase of our public school teachers,” Briones said in a statement. Briones reiterated the need to consider the amount of money the government needs to shell out should increase in the wages of public school teachers be implemented. “First, we need to carefully assess the fiscal impact of the salary increase. A PhP5,000.00 across the board increase will require an additional P75 billion annually,” Briones said. “Raising such amount will have to consider corresponding policies in taxes, borrowing, or budget reallocation,” she added. Briones also noted that other government personnel should be likewise considered

Teachers use renovated toilets as faculty area in Cavite school Teachers of a public school in Cavite now use comfort rooms as a makeshift faculty area after their quarters were converted to classrooms days before the opening of classes. Photos of an old toilet transformed into a teachers' room were uploaded on Facebook by Maricel Herrera, faculty association president of Bacoor National High School. She said teachers were informed on May 27, a week before the opening of classes, that their former faculty quarters would be used as classrooms. Schools in remote areas to get government priority

Image
Schools in remote areas to get government priority Education Secretary Leonor Briones vowed to prioritize the development of the so-called “last mile” schools, or those that fail to meet the basic criteria set for learning institutions in the Philippines. She directed various offices in the agency to identify which schools fall under this category to enable the DepEd to implement programs that would address their needs. Based on the memorandum, “last mile” schools are those that have less than four classrooms, with makeshift or non-standard rooms, without electricity, have not been allocated funds for repairs or construction for the last four years and have travel distance of more than one hour from the town center. They also include those that have multigrade classes or rooms, with less than five teachers, have a student population of less than 100 and with more than 75 percent of learners coming from indigenous peoples’ groups.
